Intel Loses $30B Per Year, Gets $50B in Subsidies, Asks for More

No.100261474 View ViewReplyLast 50OriginalReport
>Shares of Intel hit the skids Wednesday after it reported growing losses on its semiconductor foundry business. Politicians of both parties tout the U.S. chip maker as a national champion, but these days it looks more like an emblem of dubious government industrial policy
>Investors are getting their first close look at Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger’s ambitions to compete with TSMC and Samsung in chip manufacturing. They apparently didn’t like what they see. The Silicon Valley giant disclosed in a securities filing that it lost $7 billion on its foundry unit last year on $18.9 billion in sale
>Gelsinger was among the loudest advocates for Washington’s $280 billion chips bill in 2022 to boost domestic chip manufacturing
>Last month the Administration announced $8.5 billion in direct funding for Intel, plus up to $11 billion in low-cost loans for projects
>Intel says it also plans to pocket federal tax credits from the chips bill that could offset up to 25% of its estimated $100 billion U.S. expansion
>Intel could pocket some $50 billion in federal subsidies. Yet Gelsinger wants more. American chip manufacturing “doesn’t get fixed in one three- to five-year program,” the CEO said last month. “I do think we’ll need at least a CHIPS 2 to finish that job.”

Due to lack of vertical integration, having to source everything from all over the globe, unionized jobs, high salaries, lack of educated workers, and high CEO yearly bonuses, Intel is losing $30B/year. Yet, they are taking $50B/year in government subsidies, to prop up a gargantuan money losing company, just so that the US can have a semiconductor producer on the global stage.

Intel will likely receive $500B over 10 years in subsidies, likely more, since Intel's CEO said $50B/year just isn't enough. How long can the US continue propping up Intel? Or are they too important to lose, much like Boeing/GM/American banks? In that they have to be constantly bailed out, because they cannot fail?

Holy fuck it just keeps getting worse. Are we even going to have a tech industry left in the west by the end of this decade?

Total indian death

Im so fucking done with anyone who calls in under a +91 or the dreaded prison colony code. I work in enterprise support and my job consists of consulting with people about networking issues at a fotune 50 company (take a wild guess)
Virtually all callers from India and now Australia are the worst people to talk to imagineable. They are rude, they are all brown and they do not respect us and expect us to do things that we are not responsible for. When i get a call from them, it usually goes like this:
>"hhello saar my name is brumdashribashana srijafaratinanam an i havv a oppen ticketnumber wirht u nummer uhhh"
>ask them for a callback number
>they dont have one so i just dont write anything
>they tell me about the issue and its something batshit simple, their shits offline
>ok so you fix it right you know how to fix it okay yess ok ok
>Tell them that the appliance has been offline and unreachable for days, we have no telemetry to find out what happened
>they ask for a M$ teams meeting link and i say no, we need to be on site to find the problem
>they get mad and say this is unacceptable, ask for a manager
>i have started to outright deny these requests because thats not a valid reason why, explain politely that they need an internet connection for me to assist them
>they get upset but since im white they back away and ask the most retarded questions instead
>want support for something my company doesnt make
>get mad when i tell them i cannot administrate that device, that isnt my job
>this continues as i repeat myself that this is not my problem and you need to go there locally and console in and feed us logs, or have the appliance online and connected for us
>they end with some shit like demanding a writeup and threaten the support contract if the device doesnt come back
>i tell them thats ok, knowing full well its a stupid bluff and they depend on what we sell so i ignore it and continue

Working here has made me incredibly racist. I hate jeets,

..and this image is a compact version...

Linux distros are so fucked. Rather than having a small handful of 4 or 5 really good distros, which are looked after by 90% of the decent and dedicated contributors, people just have to be autistic and constantly create their own distros

> Waaa, this distro does 99% of what I need, but because I'm a spoilt autistic brat, I have to have my very own one that fits just me 100%
> Spend all my time creating it
> After a few years I get bored and move on with my life, and this becomes yet another dead distro amongst thousands of others
> I could have spent those years improving some of the more established distros, but I thought I'd waste all my efforts instead

Heres the facts faggots, Linux will never be able to compete with Windows or MacOS, since they are able to actually focus their workforce on making their products as good as they can be. The FOSS community COULD also do that, but because they'd rather spend their time reinventing the wheel millions times, creating distros which all pretty much do the exact same thing in one way or another so we are never going to get that.

Now we have a situation where there's not really even one distro you can use that is decent as a daily driver that doesn't have constant issues. All because distro niggers couldnt stop being autistic and get their act together.
